Attacking
You will want to spy on a potential target before attacking, please see the section on spying.
Attacking is a fairly simple process, you send a portion of your units and anywhere from 1-5 leaders, to attack another empire, taking land/power/civilians (scientists in some cases)/money from their empire. This is the classic way to grow in games of this type.
Military units within the game have an attack and defense strength. To successfully attack another empire, your total attack points must exceed their total defense points. In addition to various bonuses.
- Terrain - Terrains can give an attack advantage, up to 20%, and/or a defense bonus, up to 15%.
- Generals/War Leaders - Each Leader you send with your forces, after the first leader, is +3% offense.
- Military Research - Military Research can boost combat effectiveness by up to 30%, most players find it's a good idea to keep this maxed.
- Military Morale - This value can be from 0-105%. It goes up and down slowly, based on your barracks. If you have less then 87.5% barracks cap (175 spaces out of 200 full), it will go up, up to 105%. If you are short on barracks it will decrease. If you barracks are at 105% capacity, it will drop as low as 95%, barracks at 150% capacity, will drop as low as 50%. You may want to make sure you have enough barracks.
- Shields - The defender can be running with shields on, they max at 10% and are added in to the defenders multiplier.
- State of Readiness - This can be between 0-50%. It's based on if the empire has recently seen combat. If you are attacked, it will boost this, and it will drop over a period of time (5% drop every 30 minutes). Doing most attacks, won't boost this value; doing an alliance retaliation, WILL boost your State of Readiness.
Bonus's will be ADDED together, and multiplied times both sides attack/defense points, respectively. For Example (the numbers are make believe, yes):
Defender: Morale (1.05) + Research (.3) + Terrain (.1) + Shields (.05) = 1.5 * points Attacker: Morale (.9 (they need barracks)) + Research (.3) + Terrain(-.1) + Leaders (.06 (three Leaders)) = 1.16 * points
Note: State of Readiness, will affect how much land/goodies you get for attacking a kingdom. It will decrease the 10% standard by 1/2 the State of Readiness. i.e., attacking a 1,000 land target, with a 10% state of readiness, you'll get 95 land. If they had a 50% state of readiness, you'll get 75 land.
Gains Research will increase the land/money/pop you get from successful attacks, it's max is 10% but it means if you attack a 1,000 land target with 0 state of readiness, you get 110 land.
